Passing the baton

Hey,
I'm not sure i entirely get what the statement on 'passing the baton' means. I understand GrSec is an exceptional product but where is this leading ? Can an institute using the name Open Source Security Inc. actually look itself in the eye again ?
Does this mean there will not even be a delayed release anymore ?
If that is so, this is what will eventually kill or is already killing open source. To no other end result than OSI losing face, reputation and clients eventually. In a way, the cat's already out of the bag. This time it just can't get in again.
